has updated
their popular CD burning software, Toast Titanium. This version
adds Buffer Underrun Prevention for DVD-R drives, support for DVD-R
media speed detection, better responsiveness when burning to built-in
ATAPI/IDE recorders, improved compatibility with Apple's iTunes
and Disc Burner, Apple Packet Media Access compatibility, support
for new CD and DVD recorders, improved support for the Apple SuperDrive,
the Pioneer DVR-A03, and the Yamaha 2100E, and Disc-to-Disc copy

Owners chime in on iMac's third birthday
On August 15 -- the iMac's third birthday -- Apple asked iMac owners
to tell them how the iMac has changed their lives. Apple received
more than 700 emails, a number of which it has selected and posted.

Apple has officially announced its much rumored price cuts on the
Titanium PowerBook G4s: $2,200 for the 400 MHz model and $3,000
for the 500 MHz model, a price drop of $400 and $500 respectively.
Apple will be ending its free CD-RW promo with
the purchase of Titanium PowerBook G4 today--about 10 days ahead
of the expected Sept 3 end date and one day before it is expected
to cut prices on the laptops by either $400 to $500, depending on
the model.

Apple has posted its Mac
OS 9.2.1 Update. Mac OS 9.2 is not generally available, but
is bundled on newer Macs released at Macworld Expo New York last
July. The Mac OS 9.2.1 update is for both computers with Mac OS

Stairways Software has released Interarchy
5.0, a new version of its popular file transfer tool that now
features support for both Classic and Mac OS X. Interachy 5.0 features
downloads via both FTP and HTTP, as well as a suite of tools designed
to help the Mac Internet user. New in version 5.0 is FTP Disk, a
feature that allows users to access files on frequently-used servers
with any application in the same way users would access files on
the hard drive. FTP Disk also provides instant access to files over
a slow connection or while offline. A free, fully functional version
of Interarchy 5.0 will be available until October 1, 2001; single-user

4.0.1 is a maintenance release of the software for supporting

3.0.4 is a new version of the software for Iomega products,

Many of us remember when Apple shipped its revolutionary new consumer
desktop -- dubbed "iMac" -- three years ago today. To celebrate
the occasion, Apple is asking iMac owners to send
in stories of how the iMac has changed their lives. Apple will
then post some of the best stories they receive on their Web site.

OS 9.2 general release coming soon? A MacUser
article states: "Information has just come to hand that
OS 9.2 will in fact be a general release that can be installed on
any Mac capable of running OS X. It was originally believed that
9.2 would be restricted to the new Power Macs, but sources have
led MacUser.co.uk to believe that Apple is very close to releasing
the final version in the near future."
Netscape has posted a final version of Netscape
6.1, a new version of its browser available for both Mac OS
8.5/9 as well as a preview

2001 Audio patch, "designed to patch an audio drop problem with

Apple's Final
Cut Pro 2.0.2 updater addresses a number of issues in the professional
video editing packing, including compatibility with Macintosh Manager.
Version 2.02 also now allows the use of 32kHz audio files sounded
in a 48kHz sequence, offers better support for systems with more
