Who
Laura "Database Queen"
With a varied background in business (accounting,
sales and management) and printing, Laura has worked with hair
salons, construction companies, printers, newspapers, publishers,
senior citizen financial services, manufacturers, and in music.
She has owned several businesses, and feels fortunate to have
been in Seattle when Aldus (Adobe) was coming into its own
in desktop publishing and digital pre-press. Laura was able to
train with software developers and writers such as Olav Martin
Kvern.
Laura worked with one of the "first 10,000" Macintoshes
and purchased her first Mac in September 1984. Since then, she
has provided business services from bookkeeping to spreadsheets
to databases. In 1989, Laura and Frank began writing and publishing
a newspaper for musicians, called Northwest Musician and Recording,
in the Puget Sound area. This was their introduction to digital
pre-press at a time when most printers didnt even know what
a scanner was. Laura has been involved with marketing using direct
mail and seminars and has consulted on projects ranging from setting
up a print shop to complete offices.
Laura has taken her business organization and management skills
and used them to create custom Filemaker databases
for Macintosh, Windows and Linux. She sometimes purchases ready-made
FM Pro solutions and will customize them to suit your business.
She also is a graphic designer and web site developer. Laura
can train you and your employees in everything from the Macintosh
OS (operating system) to Filemaker Pro to QuarkXpress,
Pagemaker, InDesign and Photoshop. Laura currently owns her third
PowerBook, an Aluminum 15 inch
1 Gig.
